The elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Arsenal forces Milan to change their plans ahead of the final part of the season, as they will now be able to focus completely on the fourth place which is just four points away.
It will certainly be an unusual couple of months for Milan, who are so used to going far in the Champions League, but Clarence Seedorf tried to motivate the squad ahead of the next match against Empoli this weekend.
"I expect to see a strong reaction starting from the match against Empoli," the midfielder said, "which this team has often been able to do even after tough defeats. We have to find the strength to keep going until the end, and we can't afford to go to Empoli and have a stroll.
"We have to believe in it, because last year we did more complicated things. Now we'll have the chance to train and get back our injured players. We are confident that at the end of the season we will reach our objective."
The defeat against Arsenal certainly caused a lot of disappointment, but Seedorf preferred to talk about the positive side of that evening at San Siro.
"I prefer to talk about the fact we were all left deeply impressed by the applause of San Siro at the end of the game, because the fans understood we did everything we could," he continued.
"Certainly we are sad, but we're also proud to have experienced a few incredible years, a period which concluded against a great team."
